When you`re preparing for a particular destination, you`ll often find better availability and more options from a smaller agency that`s where you want to stay than with a global network. While I rarely hear stories about the bad things that happen during the exchange, I`ve heard of a number of people who exchange cars before, but don`t do it anymore after a bad experience. It is not necessarily that they have an exchange partner who does something wrong. But with a car, a lot of things can go wrong, even with good intentions. If you agree to exchange cars with your original partner, it is advisable to put the conditions in writing. To avoid problems and misunderstandings, both parties must fill out, print, sign and send signed copies to this form (or similar). There is a good chance that your home will be safe, especially if you are making a direct swap, because you are expected to take care of your partner`s house properly while he or she stays with you. Frequent correspondence and/or telephone conversations between partners prior to the swap will strengthen friendship and trust.

If possible, go to one or the other house to start the exchange. And make sure you`re both adequately insured (including auto insurance if your vehicle is involved in the swap). Obviously, the exchange at home is not for the migrant traveler-on-tuesday-if-it-the-Belgium, but for the so-called slow travelers who will stay for a while.
